Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for Horses in Brisbane, Ipswich and Lockyer Valley
Treating joint disease and injury is becoming easier with advanced scientific therapies.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, for example, is one of the methods we use at our practice when treating formerly untreatable joint disease and injuries in horses.
Derived from your horse’s own blood, PRP therapy has shown to be effective in allowing healthy inflammatory cells to enter the area of injury, along with the formation of new blood vessels, new connective tissue and regeneration of skin. PRP therapy, in effect, accelerates healing.
What is the advantage of PRP therapy?
Platelet rich plasma can be obtained from your horse in a matter of minutes and injected into the site of injury. As it’s derived from your horse’s own blood, there is no risk of rejection by the cells within your horse’s body, making the side effects minimal.
Most commonly, PRP therapy is used to treat tendon and ligament injuries, many of which have been untreatable in the past and resulted in long-term performance issues. PRP therapy has been shown to accelerate and improve the quality of healing, allowing your horse to return to their full health in a shorter amount of time.
